Who's who

Musical Team

Lyn EvansMrs Lyn Evans - Musical Director
Lyn was born in Gwent and showed an interest and aptitude for music at a very young age starting to play the piano when only 5 years old. She decided to turn her interest in music into a career and trained to become a music teacher at Newton Park College, Bath. After graduation Lyn began teaching music in 1977 and took [very] early retirement during the summer of 2012 but continues to work in music as a Home Tutor for student support and in addition also teaches at Cwmtawe Music Centre in Pontardawe.

Between 2004 and 2009 Lyn was Musical Director of the Port Talbot Youth Amateur Operatic Society directing a number of very successful productions and also taught at the Cwrt Sart Wind Centre which has now sadly closed.

Lyn joined Neath Male Choir in December 2001 as Assistant Accompanist and quickly became Principal Accompanist in June the following year. In 2007 Lyn’s role expanded and she became Assistant Musical Director. In 2009 Lyn was proud and honoured to be appointed as Musical Director of the choir.

Lyn’s time as Musical Director, although very busy, particularly in 2012 on the lead up to the Albert Hall Festival in London which took place in the autumn  is extremely enjoyable and rewarding . The camaraderie, support and encouragement she receives from within the choir is special.

Lyn’s tireless efforts are appreciated by everyone in the choir and it is fair to say that no-one puts in as much time, effort and sheer hard work in order to improve and promote the choir.

Nathan Jones - AccompanistNathan Jones - Accompanist and Deputy Musical Director

Nathan is currently studying a Masters in Composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff , a world away from his undergraduate study in Computer Science at Swansea University.

Whilst at Swansea , Nathan held the positions of Performing Arts Rep for the Students Union and MD for the Choral Society. During his time in these posts the societies won NUS Wales Society of the Year , Swansea Students Union best society and Swansea Students Union best student-led event , achievements that Nathan is very proud of.

Nathan now works with various musical groups across South Wales , including Neath Male Choir , Selsig Operatics and Cockett Operatics Society. In what little spare time he has left , Nathan enjoys arranging and orchestrating pieces for various ensembles including his own functions choir 'Rechoir' .

Nathan has been with Neath Male Choir since autumn 2012 and made his performance debut with the choir in November. He has quickly developed a good rapport with the choir and we look forward to a long and successful association with him.

Nathan was appointed Deputy Musical Director in January 2016 and we were all delighted to see Nathan's abilities recognised in this appointment.

Thomas Howell - accompanist

Tom joined Neath Male Choir in May 2015 and quickly proved to be a popular acquisition for the choir with his personality and his ability on the piano . He is a local man and a student , and started playing the piano at 7 years old at Bryncoch School and developed a wider range in saxophone and choral singing after moving on to Dwr Y Felin Comprehensive when he became heavily involved in all the schools musical activities , including orchestral , choral , strings and wind band.

In addition to his commitments with us Tom is also organist at St Catherines Church and directs and accompanies Bryncoch Church in Wales School Choir.

We look forward to a long and happy relationship with Tom.

Conal reluctantly left our permanent musical team in 2015 due to increasing demands on his time with his involvement in so many musical projects but he  has since maintained his link with the choir and holds a number of masterclasses with us during the course of the year and we are delighted to continue to work with Conal  despite it being on an infrequent basis.
